Solving Shaving, Waxing & Hair Removal Challenges:
IT IS WHAT WE DO!!!

Do you refuse to wear a bikini because your bikini area looks more like the face of a puberty stricken 13 year old than that of a clean, well groomed woman? Does your morning Shave leave your face feeling hotter than a stereo at a pawnshop?

If so, we may have some solutions for some of the most common hair removal challenges.

Clinical Background & Usage

Many men and women (mainly those with coarse, curly hair) suffer from a common condition know as pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB), commonly known as razor bumps and ingrown hairs.

PFB is a clinical syndrome caused by close shaving of curly hair. Because the inherent curvature of the hair follicle in persons with tight coiling hair is sharpened by the shaving process, it acts like a sharp hook, and penetrates the superficial surface of the skin, resulting in a splinter-like foreign body reaction in the deeper layers of the skin. In men, the condition commonly affects the anterior neckline, the chin, and maxillary prominence of the cheeks. In women, the condition commonly affects the legs, under arms, and bikini area. If not managed appropriately, this relatively benign process can leave life-long pigmentary changes and/or disfiguring hypertrophic or keloidal scarring.

Causes

PFB occurs when a hair (often sharpened after shaving), pierces and enters the skin adjacent to the follicle, causing inflammation and a foreign body reaction.  OUCH!  Similarly, when a hair curls back onto itself prior to exiting the epidermis it often forms an ingrown hair, which, like a razor bump, causes inflammation and a foreign body reaction.

Prevention

The only 100% effective way to prevent PFB is to stop shaving.  Once hairs reach a certain length, they will no longer have the necessary rigidity to pierce the adjacent skin.  But for most people, simply not shaving or removing hair is not a viable option.

Men - Using Follique & Shave-Aid

The simple shave that leaves you refreshed is a quality shave.  Shaving shouldn’t be rushed.  Shave right after taking a warm shower. Wet your face with warm water and massage Shave-Aid Shave Cream into your beard.  Don’t worry about lather – it is not doing squat!  Use a clean razor and with short strokes, shave with the grain of the hair growth, stretching skin with your free hand to create a smooth surface. As soon as you’ve finished shaving, thoroughly rinse your face with cold water and pat dry completely. This calms the skin and closes pores.  Spot treat areas that have razor bumps or ingrown hairs with Shave-Aid Razor Bump Fighter.  Then apply Shave-Aid aftershave moisturizer, to lock in moisture and protect the skin.  If the Bump Fighter gives too much of a bite when used right after shaving, use it before or at night before bedtime.

Women - How to Use Follique for Ingrown Hairs & Shaving Bumps

Razor bumps and Ingrown hairs can be caused by hair follicles (often sharpened after shaving), piercing and entering the skin adjacent to the follicle, causing inflammation and a foreign body reaction.  Ingrown hairs are also caused from waxing, sugaring and other forms of hair removal.  As the hair weakens it isn't always able to break through the skin, causing an ingrown hair.

After Shaving:

For best results, use Follique on dry skin after shaving.  You may also experience good results using before shaving if the stings bothers you when using prior to shaving. Follow up with Follique Nourishing Body lotion to lock in moisture.
